PM Marković hosts EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn
Podgorica, Montenegro (9 February 2018) - Prime Minister Duško Marković hosted earlier today EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.
He thanked Commissioner Hahn for the good news from Brussels, noting that Montenegro has many reasons to be satisfied with its own successful process of European integration, as well as with the fact that the Strategy sends a clear message that the region has a European perspective, that the reforms are paid off and that European values bring prosperity and stability. In the context of the accession process, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the fact that the European Union has maintained the regatta principle, that is, evaluation of the progress of each country individually, stressing Montenegro's commitment to continuing the intensive reform agenda and further improving the dynamics of the negotiations. Commissioner Han reiterated the importance of the strategy and the opportunity it provides to Montenegro and other countries of the region to progress on the basis of the results in the accession process, reiterating the importance of implementing reforms in the rule of law and other key areas.
PM Marković infomed the European Commissioner about positive results of Montenegro's economic policy in the past year and the strategic plans related to the continuation of economic reforms and development projects, primarily in tourism, infrastructure and agriculture.
The two officials also exchanged views on cooperation of the countries of the region in implementing concrete plans and obligations under the Berlin Process, and agreed on the significance of boosting the dynamics in the coming period in this field as well.
The meeting was attended by ministers of foreign affairs and European integration, Srđan Darmanović and Aleksandar Andrija Pejović, and Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, Ambassador Aivo Orav.
