PM Marković hosts group of senior officers of US Armed Forces: US support for Montenegro further strengthens our friendship and partnership
Podgorica, Montenegro (14 February 2018) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković hosted Wednesday a group of newly-appointed senior officers of the United States Armed Forces, who are visiting Montenegro under the CAPSTONE programme, a joint service professional military education courses for newly promoted brigadier generals and rear admirals serving in the United States military, sponsored by the US National Defence University.
Welcoming the US military officers, headed by Philip Breedlove, a retired General in the United States Air Force who served as the Commander, U.S. European Command, the Prime Minister thanked the Government and people of the United States of America for their support for Montenegro, in particular for its accession to NATO, noting that this visit, as well as last year's visit of the US Vice President Mike Pence, further strengthens the friendship and partnership between the two countries.
The Prime Minister informed the US military delegation about the outcomes of the Government's policies and the priorities in the forthcoming period, pointing out that Montenegro's membership in NATO was one of the key preconditions for the country’s excellent economic results in 2017. PM Marković emphasised Montenegro’s commitment to fulfilling all the obligations arising from membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.
General Breedlove congratulated Montenegro on NATO membership, stressing that the United States has an important and reliable ally in this part of the world.
Prime Minister Marković and the senior officers of the United States Armed Forces exchanged views on s number of topics of regional and global importance.
