Podgorica, Montenegro (20 February 2018) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković hosted earlier today Acting Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Ivan Korčok.

It was jointly noted that Montenegro and the Slovak Republic foster extremely close and friendly relations, further strenghtened by high-quality and open personal relations of the highest officials of the two countries. PM Marković thanked Slovakia for the continued assistance provided to Montenegro during the successfully completed accession process to NATO, as well as in the process of EU integration.

The importance of the recently adopted European Commission's strategy for the Western Balkans was emphasised, as well as the importance of the fact that the EU remains committed to the regatta principle, i.e., the evaluation of each state according to their achievements. Acting Minister Korcok reiterated that Slovakia considers the enlargement of the European Union to the Western Balkans one of its vital interests.

Both sides noted that there is room for deepening relations in the field of economic cooperation. In that respect, the meeting welcomed the serious interest of the Slovak company SES Tlmača in the ecological reconstruction of Thermal Power Plant.

Prime Minister Marković invited Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fica to visit Montenegro and asked Acting Minister Korcock to convey his personal greetings to the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Miroslav Lajčak.
