Authorities are intensively working on identification of person who committed suicide attack on US Embassy

The officers of the Police Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior are undertaking activities to identify the person who threw an explosive device into the courtyard of the US Embassy in Podgorica last night and then committed suicide. The police are intensively working to highlight the event.

Namely, about midnight last night, the citizens reported to the Emergency Department of the Centre for Security Podgorica that an explosion was heard in the part of the town called Preko Morače near the Sports Centre Morača. The officers of the Centre for Security immediately visited the site and soon, across the road from the US Embassy, on the ground near the Morača River, found the lifeless body of an unidentified male.

According to the activities undertaken so far, this male person was killed due to the activation of an explosive device after having previously thrown an explosive device - a bomb in the US Embassy courtyard.

The explosion in the courtyard of the US Embassy, in addition to the crater remaining at the site where the bomb exploded, did not cause material damage to the property of the Embassy.

The competent state prosecutor who led the on-site investigation was informed about the event. The evidences from the site are taken and they will be subject to expert evaluation.

The officers of the Police Directorate are in communication with representatives of the US Embassy in connection with this event. The public will be informed in a timely manner about all details determined by further investigation.
