Ministry of Justice proposes only one pardon in 2017, not 153 as Dan daily claims

Podgorica, Montenegro (16 March 2018) -- In 2017, the Ministry of Justice proposed to the President of Montenegro to grant a convicted person a pardon in only one case, when it was a single mother, a victim of domestic violence, who committed a criminal offence for which she was sentenced to 60 days of imprisonment out of fear of her husband and fear for her underage children.

In line with the Pardon Law, the Ministry of Justice processed last year 153 requests for pardon sent to the President of Montenegro, and only in this case gave a positive opinion, while in 152 cases, the Ministry of Justice decided that pardons should be denied.

President of Montenegro accepted the request for pardoning the convicted person, which is also the only decision that accepted the pardon request in 2017.
