Montenegro expects support from EU member states for reforms to finalise the negotiation process

In addressing representatives of the EU member states today in Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Pažin said that Montenegro, based on quality reforms, as well as building trust and cooperation within NATO, expects the EU support for reforms to successfully conclude the negotiating process.

"These expectations, apart from the quality and good dynamics of our reforms, are based on the fact that we have built strong ties of trust and solidarity with our European partners by joining NATO and overcoming the recent serious security temptation," stressed out DPM Pažin.

In a discussion with members of the EU Council Working Group on Enlargement, DPM Pažin welcomed renewed enthusiasm for the idea of ​​a united Europe that has adopted the new EU Enlargement Strategy, affirming the principle of individual assessment of the candidate countries progress.

Presenting the key results of the Government's policy, he pointed to a high rate of economic growth of over 4% last year, which was far above the European average. DPM Pažin also told Montenegro's ambition on the basis of strong economic growth, is a reduction of the public debt by 2020 below 60% of GDP.

Deputy Prime Minister underlined that the current year represents a milestone for the strategic European way of Montenegro and the whole region, pointing out that Montenegro is ready this year to open all the remaining chapters and direct energy to reforms that will lead to the closing of the negotiating process.
