PM Marković meets with Head of OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission

Podgorica, Montenegro (22 March 2018) -- Prime Minister of Montenegro Duško Marković hosted earlier today the Head of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE/ODIHR) Election Observation Mission Cayetana De Zulueta Owtram.

The Prime Minister welcomed the presence of the mission in our country, recalling the continuity of Montenegro's excellent relations with the OSCE/ODIHR, both in the area of improvement of electoral legisltion, as well as in other important issues for democratic processes in Montenegro over many years of partnership.

Emphasising the importance of the mission and its activities during the upcoming presidential elections, the Prime Minister highlighted all previous positive assessments of the electoral prcess in Montenegro by the OSCE and other relevant international organisations, and expressed the belief that this time Montenegro will also conduct a high-quality democratic process, recalling the work of the Working Group for the Implementation of Election Recommendations with which ODIHR has been cooperating in the past period.

De Zulueta Owtram ingormed PM Marković about the details and objectives of the Mission, which has 16 long-term and 100 short-term observers, and thanked him for the invintation to observe the elections on behalf of the OSCE participating States, emphasising the objective and professional nature of the monitoring mission and agreeing on the importance and quality of the continuous cooperation that the OSCE/ODIHR is implementing in Montenegro.
