Statement by Deputy Prime Minister Pažin regarding threats of violence against journalist Jelena Jovanović

Podgorica, Montenegro (23 March 2018) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Zoran Pažin strongly condemned the case of threatening the security of journalist Jelena Jovanović.

"I strongly condemn the case of violence against journalist Jelena Jovanović and I tell all the bullies that the competent authorities will act decisively and severely sanction any form of threat to the security of media representatives.

At the same time, I welcome the prompt and effective reaction of the Police and Prosecutor’s Office in protecting personal and professional integrity of Ms Jovanović, which resulted in the rapid identification and deprivation of liberty of the suspect. I asked the Police Authority to pay special attention to this case and clarify all the circumstances of the case in the shortest possible time, as well as to urgently create a safety assessment for Ms Jovanović and provide her with appropriate protection if necessary," said Deputy Prime Minister Pažin.
