Western Balkan leaders consider that EC Progress Report strengthens European perspective on Region

Skopje, Macedonia (18 April 2018) -- Prime Minister of Montenegro Duško Marković participated in the working meeting of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and six leaders of the Western Balkan countries.

In a regular meeting of the Region leaders and EU High Representative, yesterday published European Commission Report on the Countries of the Region has been considered. It was noted that the European perspective of the Western Balkans is empowered with the recommendation to open negotiations with the Republic of Albania and the Republic of Macedonia and that this decision of the European Commission represents an incentive to the integration processes.

Prime Ministers of the Government of Montenegro Duško Marković, Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabić, Republic of Albania Edi Rama, Republic of Kosovo Ramush Haradinaj and the Republic of Macedonia Zoran Zaev, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić and EU High Representative Federica Mogherini noted that the regular meetings of the leaders of the Western Balkans six and the policy coordination already gave results in the form of an increased level of consensus and confidence in key issues of European integration in the Region.

It was estimated that the upcoming Summit in Sofia, as well as the meeting of the European Council, present the next important events for the European perspective of the Western Balkans.

Prime Minister Markovic met in Skopje with the Prime Minister of Kosovo Ramush Haradinaj. The meeting assessed that two neighboring and friendly countries have no open issues. The prime ministers expressed willingness to cooperate in infrastructure projects, with particular reference to the route of Rozaje – Dečani and the project of the railway from Pljevlja via Bijelo Polje to Kosovo.

Prime Minister Haradinaj congratulated Prime Minister Marković on the outcome of Montenegrin presidential elections, saying that it is good for the stability of the entire region.
