New York: Montenegro is constructive and reliable partner to UN
Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović participated in New York in the open debate of the United Nations Security Council on youth, peace and security.
During his address, Minister Darmanović estimated that youth around the world can make a significant contribution to the maintenance of peace and stability and, in this context, stressed that they need to play an important role in this process and intensively participate in social, political, economic and cultural development.
We must work continuously and diligently at all levels to raise awareness among youth and introduce them with the rights and opportunities that are available to them. Montenegro supports all efforts aimed at addressing the needs and priorities of youth, as well as proposing sustainable solutions to their problems, the Minister said.
He expressed the belief that investment in youth is the best investment for the stability and prosperity of Montenegrin society.
Minister Darmanović has concluded that the issue of youth, peace and security requires joint action, and said that Montenegro will continue to be a reliable partner in efforts to create a space for the contribution of youth to peace and security.
Minister Darmanović also had a separate meeting with President of the General Assembly of the United Nations Miroslav Lajčak in New York.
The Minister emphasised Montenegro's readiness to contribute constructively and actively to the implementation of the priorities of the current presidency. He underlined Montenegro's commitment to UN core values and respect for the UN Charter and international obligations, as well as the achievement of the goals defined in Agenda 2030.
Strong commitment to sustainable development also represents our strategic development policy and, among other things, is reflected in the fact that Montenegro is one of the first countries to integrate the Agenda 2030 into the National Strategy for Sustainable Development and transfer the goals of sustainable development to the national level, Minister Darmanović said.
He assessed that, in the context of efforts aimed at preserving international peace and security, emphasis should be placed on preventive approach, i.e. peacetime methods and diplomatic means as the best way to permanently resolve conflicts.
President of the General Assembly Lajčak expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between Montenegro and the United Nations, which is an example of an effective partnership. Montenegro is a constructive and reliable partner both in the Western Balkans region and within the international community.
The officials announced the continuation of joint efforts in achieving the goals of sustainable development and successful implementation of Agenda 2030.
