Celebrated Protection and Rescue Day in Montenegro

On the occasion of the celebration of the Protection and Rescue Day in Montenegro and the International Civil Defence Day, the Ministry of the Interior organized a ceremony on the premises of the Protection Service of the Capital where awards and recognitions were delivered for contribution to the development of the protection and rescue system in the previous year.

On that occasion, the Director General of Directorate for Emergency Management Mirsad Mulić and the Minister of the Interior Mevludin Nuhodzić addressed the participants, and a demonstration was held in which, besides the Helicopter Unit of the Directorate for Emergency Management, the Protection Service of the Capital and the Mountain Rescue Service participated.

Congratulations on the occasion of the Protection and Rescue Day was also offered by the Prime Minister Duško Marković, reading that in the previous period, employees in the Protection and Rescue Service showed that Montenegro has strong capacities in this area, which was confirmed through the extraordinary courage and dedication shown in 2017, but also in earlier years. The Prime Minister also stated that the Government was firmly committed to improving the living conditions and work of firefighters and rescuers in the available frameworks, and with the full involvement of the Ministry of the Interior.

Welcoming all those who were present, the Minister congratulated the members of the system the Protection and Rescue Day and emphasized that the courage and dedication with which this above all a human profession is carried out, is highly appreciated.

"Natural and technical and technological disasters are a reality. They are, at the same time, a challenge that shows the extent and the manner the state is ready to react. Therefore, we need to have a strong, institutional and organized response that will minimize the consequences from elementary and other disasters, "said the Minister Nuhodžić.

The Minister Nuhodžić recalled that at the end of last year, the Government of Montenegro adopted the Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction for the period 2018-2023 which defines goals and key activities in the development and equipping of the system, and emphasized that the Ministry of the Interior increased the budget for emergency management in 2018.

"In this regard, it is to be expected that in the next six-year period we will further improve the protection and rescue system and make it more efficient," he said.

Congratulating the Protection and Rescue Day, the Director General of the Directorate for Emergency Management Mirsad Mulić recalled the scope and complexity of protection and rescue work.

"These are jobs in which heartiness is implied, nobility leads, and courage decides. They are in fact proof that in every life and every time there is room for accomplishments. And the accomplishment is indeed, to save human life or someone's material good. "

In his speech, he emphasized that the Directorate for Emergency Management is currently implementing 12 projects through which valuable equipment will be procured, numerous trainings will be held, and exercises on the topic of rescue in case of various types of hazards. He thanked all participants in the system for good cooperation.

Also, in order to mark March 1, representatives of the Regional Emergency Management Unit Podgorica and the Center 112 of the Directorate for Emergency Management held a presentation to volunteers from the JU Srednja građevinsko-geodetska škola "Inž. Marko Radović" from Podgorica on the protection and rescue system in Montenegro, responsibilities and role of the Directorate for Emergency Management and Center 112. The presentation was attended by 13 students of the volunteer club of this school and two professors.

In this way, volunteers became more familiar with the role of all participants in the protection and rescue system with a special emphasis on the importance of volunteerism and their involvement in raising the awareness of their peers and others when it comes to reducing the risk of disaster and protection and rescue.

The decision of the Commission for conducting the procedure for delivering awards and recognition established members of the protection and rescue system for awards and recognition for special merits in the development of the protection and rescue system and expressed personal dedication in the implementation of protection and rescue of people and material goods.
