Minister Nurkovic at the annual International Transport Forum Summit in Leipzig
The
delegation led by the Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs of Montenegro
Osman Nurkovic participates in Leipzig (Federal Republic of Germany) at the
annual International Transport Forum Summit.
The Leipzig
Annual Summit represents the leading platform for dialogue on the future of
transport. It gathers representatives from 59 member states to talk to
decision-makers from industry, civil society and the academic community and
discuss trends that shape mobility in the 21st century. In 2018, Summit focuses
on security and traffic safety. Security and safety are the primary concern for
all traffic systems because they affect passengers and service providers. They
are the basis for the right of an individual to travel without fear and are of
crucial importance for a reliable and efficient transport of goods. In
addition, enabling more secure and safer transport is crucial to successfully
implementing two major international agreements: the United Nations'
Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Change Agreement.
The Minister
has exhibited at the ministerial round table on Removing obstacles for a just,
safe, and effective International road traffic. On this occasion, the assembled
ministers and representatives of international organizations discussed the
obstacles to transport in the field of road traffic, in particular, a review of
common themes and measures that could be applied to resolve open issues in this
area as soon as possible. Removing obstructions in the field of road traffic,
in particular the crossing of borders, would facilitate passenger and goods
transport, and thereby contributed to the economic development of countries
belonging to the International Transport Forum.
During his
presentation, Minister Nurkovic took the opportunity to acquaint his colleagues
with the fact that in October 2017, in Montenegro, a new Law on road transport
was introduced and that Montenegro in this area fully aligned with the EU
Acquis and the Charter quality. The Minister also referred to the Center for education
in road Traffic, dedicated to drivers and road freight managers, opened in the
framework of the Montenegrin Chamber of Commerce and accredited by the IRU
Academy. In the end, he pointed out that only the joint efforts, both between
the Western Balkan countries and in cooperation with the European Union, can
remove obstacles and solve common issues in this area.
In addition
to minister Nurkovic, on the round table they participated the ministers of
Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and
Ukraine, deputy ministers of the Bulgarian and Russian Federation, as well as
representatives of the European Union, UNECE, BSEC and the International road
traffic.
Besides the
minister Nurkovic, the delegation was also Secretary of State Angelina
Živković, Director General of Road Traffic Directorate Dalibor Milošević and
