Podgorica, Montenegro (29 May 2017) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković said earlier today at a meeting with ambassadors of the Višegrad Group that the presidential and local elections have shown that Montenegro is stable on its European and Euro-Atlantic paths, and that in the new circumstances of a full political stability of the society, the Government will strengthen the efficiency of its work on the European agenda.

"In a politically stable environment, we will concentrate on European integration by fulfilling one commitment at a time, placing particular focus on meeting the provisional benchmarks for negotiating chapters 23 and 24," said the Prime Minister at a meeting with ambassadors of Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Krisztián Pósa, Karel Urban and Roman Hloben, and Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of Poland Anna Kasprzak.

Prime Minister Marković thanked the countries of the Višegrad Group for continued sincere and comprehensive support for Montenegro in its European and Euro-Atlantic integrations.

The ambassadors pointed out that the Western Balkans' issues are high on the agenda of the Višegrad Group, including the infrastructure topics, and reiterated the full support of Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland for the European Union's enlargement. In that context, they especially emphasised the fact that Montenegro, by successfully fulfilling the obligations from the European agenda, holds the leading position among the candidate countries.

Informing the Prime Minister of Montenegro about the priorities of the Višegrad Group until the end of the Hungarian Presidency, the ambassadors expressed willingness to further deepen cooperation with Montenegro in particular in terms of economy, but also when it comes to promotion of the EU accession process.

The meeting concluded that the political relations between Montenegro and the countries of the Višegrad Group are excellent and agreed on the continuation of the regular dialogue.
