ANNOUNCEMENT: Minister Damjanović to meet Jean-Eric Paquet, Director-General of DG Research and Innovation

Minister of Science Dr. Sanja Damjanović will meet Director-General of DG Research and Innovation Jean-Eric Paquet on 12 June 2018 in Brussels.

Given that the Regional Project of the Establishment of the South-East European International Institute for Sustainable Technologies (SEEIIST) enters a more mature phase, which involves the preparation of the Main Design and the Business Plan, the interlocutors will discuss the next steps to be taken in relation to the project, as well as the financial instruments for the implementation of this phase.

The meeting will also be attended by Professor Herwig Schopper, who originally proposed the Initiative for the Establishment of the Institute, as well as by Roy Aleksan, Project Coordinator of the TIARA Consortium, a consortium of the most significant organizations in the field of accelerator research and development. Meanwhile, the TIARA Consortium has given its open support to the SEEIIST project at a meeting held in March this year in CERN, Geneva. The Consortium has already established cooperation with the European Commission (EC), with which it works to support and develop significant projects such as: CARE, EuCARD, ARIES, XFEL, Linac4 in CERN, ESS, FAIR, EuroCirCol/FCC, EuPRAXIA, EASITrain. 

Previously, members of the Steering Committee of the International Institute, chaired by Minister Damjanović, have passed a unanimous decision to support Hadron Cancer Therapy and Biomedical Research with Protons and Heavy Ions as the option for the project of the Institute.
