Minister Darmanović pays first official visit to Georgia: Consulate of Montenegro opened in Tbilisi

PR ServiceMinister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović paid first official visit to Georgia at the invitation of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Mikheil Janelidze.

Speaking to the Georgian Foreign Minister, Minister Darmanović said that the visit to Georgia is particularly significant in the context of further strengthening of traditionally friendly relations and improvement of the political dialogue of the two countries.

He stressed that Montenegro, as a fully-fledged member of the Alliance, advocates the continuation of NATO's open door policy and, in this regard, supports Georgia's aspirations.

Minister Darmanović reiterated the commitment of the Government of Montenegro to continue to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognised borders.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Janelidze stressed that Montenegro's membership in NATO was a positive signal for Georgia and that it sent a clear message on the readiness of the North Atlantic Alliance to admit new members.

Janelidze expressed interest in exchanging experiences in European integration, stressing that Montenegro is the leader in this process.

The two officials agreed that the state's commitment to the Euro-Atlantic system of values is important for strengthening the stability and security of each state and region it belongs to.
It was concluded that there is room for improvement of cooperation in the fields of economy, tourism, agriculture and transport. The two officials also expressed strong readiness for organising bilateral consultations.

During the official visit to Georgia, Minister Darmanović opened the Consulate of Montenegro in Tbilisi, expressing belief that the opening of the Consulate will contribute to the promotion of overall cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Darmanović also met with Minister of Finance Mamuka Bakhtadze.
