Council for NATO: Montenegro is committed to fulfilling obligations arising from membership and national priorities

Podgorica, Montenegro (15 June 2018) -- Council for NATO, at its second session, chaired by the Council's Chairman and Prime Minister Duško Marković, discussed the current issues regarding NATO in the context of the first anniversary of membership.

It was noted that Montenegro is serious in its effort to fulfil all the obligations arising from membership, as well as to meet national priorities it represents as a member. In that regard, it was emphasised that during the first year, an enviable level of fulfillment of the goals set has been achieved, and that Montenegro has shown that it is a credible and reliable ally, willing to contribute to the Alliance's common priorities. The Council also considered important guidelines for Montenegro's defence and security activities within the Alliance, including Montenegro's Plan for NATO Integration.

The Council considered the Communication Strategy "Montenegro  - NATO member for the period until 2020." The Government was recommended to adopt the Strategy, as a strategic document for the implementation of communication activities regarding the role of Montenegro as a NATO member and the benefits of membership, as well as the policies and activities of the Alliance.

Today's meeting addressed current effect of  Montenegro's third presidency of the US-Adriatic Charter, which is an important forum for the promotion of security and Euro-Atlantic values ​​in the region.

The meeting also discussed the topics, expected results and Montenegro's points of view regarding the upcoming summit of Heads of State/Government of NATO members, which will take place in Brussels in July. It was concluded that at the summit, Montenegro will once again demonstrate that it is an ally committed to making a contribution to meeting the key goals of NATO and strengthening collective security.
