PM Marković meets Austrian Chancellor: Administration was given clear instructions on how to meet commitments from EU agenda
On the sidelines of Europa Forum Wachau conference, Prime Minister Duško Marković met with Austrian Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz for talks on the steps Montenegro intends to take in the field of European integration.
Informing the Chancellor that the successful dynamics of accession negotiations with the European Union will be an absolute priority of the Government in the time to come, the Prime Minister said that Montenegro expects support from Austria, which takes over the European Union's presidency on 1 July.
"Our administration was given clear instructions on how to work in order to effectively fulfill the commitments from the European agenda. We are focused on strengthening institutions and their sustainability, combating organised crime, reinforcing the rule of law, human rights and media freedom, while further building the ability to manage our economy and public finances well. These are our obligations that we will fulfill and strengthen our potential," said Prime Minister Marković.
Chancellor Kurz stressed that Austria will support such plans of Montenegro, given that the Western Balkans are among the priorities of the Austrian presidency.
"You enjoy our full support for your priorities. We encourage you to open two chapters during this period. I think you deserved it," he noted.
The Prime Minister thanked Chancellor Kurz for his strong support for the European prospect of the Western Balkans and its stability.
The Austrian Chancellor thanked the Prime Minister of Montenegro for the responsible approach to the issue of migration management, which is an important issue for the Western Balkans and for Europe.
