Ministers Nuhodžić and Kickl meet in Brussels: Austria recognises Montenegro's efforts in rule of law, supports its EU bid
Brussels, Belgium (19 June 2018) -- Austria recognises Montenegro's efforts in strenghtening the rule of law and supports its European integration, Interior Minister Herbert Kickl told his Montenegrin counterpart Mevludin Nuhodžić in Brussels earlier today.
The two officials spoke on the sidelines of a meeting of interior ministers of several countries of the region and Europe on the challenges of mass migration. They expressed satisfaction with the content and intensive relations of the two countries, concluding that there is room for strengthening cooperation in all areas of joint jurisdiction.
In the context of current security challenges such as migration, organised crime and terrorism, Minister Nuhodžić pointed to the importance of enhancing cooperation and joint and coordinated action, with the permanent exchange of information between police authorities.
"In that regard, I appreciate that the motto of the Austrian presidency 'Europe that protects' is well chosen, as well as the focus on issues of external borders and illegal migrations," said Minister Nuhodzic.
Minister Kickl said that Austria will continue to provide strong support to the further process of European integration of Montenegro and that he consider it important for Montenegro to become a member of the European Union in the near future.
