PM Marković hosts Natasa Kandić: Montenegro fully supports Initiative for RECOM and will do its best to make this idea come to life in entire region

Podgorica, Montenegro (22 June 2018) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković hosted earlier today a delegation of the Regional commission for the establishment of facts about war crimes and other serious violations of human rights committed in the former Yugoslavia from 1 January 1991 until 31 December 2001 (RECOM), headed by Coordinator of the Initiative Nataša Kandić.

Voicing Montenegro's full support for this initiative aimed at setting up an interstate commission to establish the facts about all the victims of the wars after the break-up of Yugoslavia, Prime Minister Marković noted that the civil sector has done a lot in this regard, but that it is now necessary to involve state institutions throughout the region so that the process can be successfully brought to an end.

"Montenegro wants this initiative to get support of all the countries in the region, so that the generation to come can have a clear picture of the ugly part of our past, and never to repeat it. We will do our best to make the idea come to life," said Prime Minister of Montenegro Duško Marković.

He stressed that the Initiative will be considered at the next Cabinet session.

"You do not have only my support as prime minister, but you will, I believe, have the support of the Government, and Montenegro will again show its responsibility and clear support," Prime Minister Marković stated, adding that he is willing to discuss the idea with leaders of the region.

Coordinator of the Initiative Nataša Kandić, Public Advocate for Montenegro Dragoljub Duško Vuković and RECOM Spokeswoman in Montenegro Tamara Milaš thanked the Prime Minister for Montenegro's strong support for the initiative, as well as for the expressed willingness of the Government and the Prime Minister to back up the important process in the time to come.

"We have had all the doors open in Montenegro, we have been given support from all state institutions and opposition. That is why I have always felt good as a public advocate for Montenegro, because in our country this initiative has never been brought into question," Dragoljub Duško Vuković underscored

Prime Minister Marković and the RECOM representatives agreed that the processes of cooperation in the region, which have been strengthened by the Berlin Process, which is part of the RECOM, have significantly improved the climate to support the Initiative and further boost mutual trust in the region.
