Podgorica, Montenegro (27 June 2018) -- Responding to the question by Raško Konjević, MP, on tax debt in four state-owned companies in the transport sector within the Prime Minister's Questions in the Parliament, Prime Minister Duško Marković stated that the Government has been working on collecting tax claims of legal and natural persons, both in this term of office and in the previous one.

"This debt has been accumulated over a period of several decades and cannot be expected to be resolved in a high-quality manner in the short term, which I believe you know, having in mind that you once served as the Minister of Finance and directly dealt with this issue," said the Prime Minister.

In order to enable better tax collection, the Law on Rescheduling of Tax Claims was passed in early 2017, which gave the tax debtors the possibility of paying the outstanding debt in several monthly instalments.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the debt of state-owned companies in the field of transport was the subject of constant attention of the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs and the Ministry of Finance and outlined the state of debt in all four transport companies on the day of 25 June 2018, emphasising that the government is continuously working on finding modalities to overcome this problem.
