The second meeting of sectoral working groups, which form part of the Entrepreneurial Discovery Process – EDP, initiated by Montenegro on 11 May this year, took place today within the sectoral working group for energy.

Just as during the meeting held yesterday, the consultants for the Entrepreneurial Discovery Process, Ms. Marjana Majerič, Assistant General Manager at Technology Park Ljubljana, and Mr. Aleš Pevc, Project Management Consultant at the Park, familiarized the participants with the process of preparing the Smart Specialization Strategy and expressed their satisfaction with active participation of the academic and economic sector in the process.

The meeting was attended by about 30 representatives of the following institutions: University of Montenegro – Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Chamber of Economy of Montenegro, Ministry of Economy, Electric Power Company of Montenegro AD Nikšić, Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System, Jugopetrol, Montenegrin Electricity Transmission System, Montenegrin Electricity Market Operator, Coal Mine Pljevlja, Mine Berane, Mezon doo, INA Montenegro, Jaha solar, Potencijal, Paka Europe, Utility Services doo and National Trade of Montenegro doo. The participants had the opportunity to exchange opinions and ideas on the areas of development in the energy sector.

In Montenegro, there are several basic energy sectors – hydro, thermal, solar and wind. However, attention is also paid to the exploration of hydrocarbons, so a possible new industrial branch based on the exploitation of hydrocarbons as an energy source could be developed in the future. Participants of the meeting expressed their views that energy companies were adopting new innovative solutions for solar systems, and that certain energy companies were investing in / testing smart buildings (houses, buildings, hotels, intersections, etc.) as well as smart energy networks. The major sub-areas with great development potential are based on solar systems, hybrid systems, and the systems for charging electric cars are also planned.

In addition, in Montenegro, there is a possibility of improved use of information and communication technologies in the management of electricity generation from all energy sources. In this way, networking of all production capacities would be implemented.

Sub-areas in the sector that have a synergistic effect in relation to other priority sectors identified so far, such as agriculture, manufacturing, health and quality of life, construction, tourism and ICT, were particularly emphasized. In this context, focus was placed on synergy with construction, primarily in terms of energy efficiency, use of nanotechnologies, use of waste for the production of new products in construction, and efficient management of electrical construction machines, which will be one of the topics of the upcoming meeting of the working group for construction.
