Today, on behalf of the Ministry of the Interior, the Director General of the Emergency Management Directorate, Mirsad Mulić, signed a Memorandum with the Norwegian People's Aid in connection with the implementation of the Program for the release of land in the area that is contaminated with cluster ammunition remnants in Montenegro. On behalf of the Norwegian People's Aid, the Agreement was signed by the Director of the South East Europe Office Sven Jonas Zachrisson .
The goal of the Memorandum, which is also a confirmation of the traditionally good and friendly relations between Montenegro and the Kingdom of Norway, is to create conditions for the contaminated areas of the Golubovci, Tuzi and Rožaje to be cleared of cluster ammunitions remnants. During the signing, Director General Mirsad Mulić pointed out that this activity is important for the citizens of Montenegro both from the security and the humanitarian point of view. By decontamination of these cluster ammunition areas, Montenegro will fulfill its last obligation under the Convention on Cluster Munitions, and citizens will have the land that will pose no threat to them.
The project will be jointly implemented by the humanitarian organization Norwegian People's Aid and the Directorate of Emergency Management of the MoI. The staff of the Emergency Directorate will monitor the quality of the implementation of the project and the destruction of the found cluster munitions, while the experts of the Norwegian People’s Aid will be tasked with searching the terrain with the latest equipment.
It is planned that the project, which begins on August 6 this year, for which Norway has provided funds in the amount of ten million Norwegian crowns, which is about 1,100,000 euros, has the duration of about two years.
