Meeting the commitment in Chapter 23 – Judiciary and Fundamental Rights and Chapter 24 – Justice, Freedom and Security is a key priority for the Montenegrin public administration, Montenegro’s Chief negotiator with the EU, Aleksandar Drljević has stated.
At a meeting with members of the EU Council’s working group for enlargement (COELA), Drljević said that progress in those areas is critical for retaining a good pace of the EU accession talks and contributing to further development of all segments of the society.
Drljević stated that Montenegro is set to intensify the implementation of its commitments in the area of the rule of law.
It is necessary, he noted, to strengthen the administrative capacities of all key institutions, in order to enable them to achieve measurable results in the field, which will reflect on the overall accession process and the general social environment.
“We are determined to carry out all the necessary reforms in order to become a credible member of the European family. The demanding process of the EU accession talks is the most powerful mechanism for reform which will contribute to building a democratic and mature society with strong and efficient institutions,” Drljević said.
He has underlined the importance of the support of the EU member states throughout Montenegro’s accession process and welcomed the messages from top European quarters that the door to the EU remains open for new members.
