Podgorica, Montenegro (6 September 2018) -- Delegation of the Swiss Continence Foundation, headed by Professor Tomas Kesler, Chairman of the Foundation and Head of the Department of Neuro-Urology at the University of Zurich and the Balgrist University Hospital, is paying an official visit to Montenegro. Earlier today, the delegation met with representatives of the Ministry of Health and the Clinical Centre of Montenegro, respectively, to discuss prospective investments and the establishment of a new health and research centre of a regional character.
Professor Kessler initiated an initiative to develop a joint project between Montenegro and Switzerland, under the auspices of the Swiss Continence Foundation, in order to improve the quality of health care in Montenegro. At the invitation of Mr Kesler, in mid August this year, Minister of Science Sanja Damjanović and Director of the Clinical Centre Jevto Eraković visited the Balgrist University Hospital and met with key people from this organisation who pledged all the necessary support to the establishment of a diagnostic centre in Montenegro, which would include education projects for health workers based on the most up-to-date scientific, educational and healthcare achievements.
The mid-term goal of this cooperation would be to establish a new health and research centre of regional character in Montenegro, in which the Swiss Foundation is ready to invest funds in the amount of up to several million euros. Since training and education of future staff in this centre is of key importance, it is pointed out the readiness of the Foundation to provide financial support for these purposes, training of researchers at the University of Zurich and medical staff at the Balgrist University Hospital.
The meeting discussed an optimal mechanism of cooperation that would lead to the establishment of a regional centre of excellence in neuro-urology, with the possibility of extending the project to the field of radiology, diagnostics, neurology and gynecology.
At the meeting with the delegation of the Swiss Continence Foundation Delegation, representatives of the Clinical Centre of Montenegro got acquainted with the work of this medical institution, that is, the medical procedures that are being conducted in this medical institution, as well as the equipment that is available to doctors. The delegation visited Nephrology, Neurology and Urology departments and talked with young doctors who are currently specialising in the countries of the region, as well as the Western Balkans, about work at the Clinical Centre, and the knowledge they gained abroad and that can be implemented right here.
The Swiss Continence Foundation delegation will also visit the Simo Milosević Institute in Igalo.
The delegation will meet tomorrow with Minister of Finance Darko Radunović, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Foreign Investments Vladimir Beratović, Mayor of Podgorica Ivan Vukovićand Vice President of the Montenegrin Academy of Science and Arts Ljubiša Stanković.
