PM Marković travels to New York for UN General Assembly session

The delegation of the Government of Montenegro led by Prime Minister Duško Marković traveled to New York today to attend the 73rd regular annual session of the United Nations General Assembly next week, "Making the United Nations relevant to all people: Global leadership and shared responsibilities for peaceful, equitable and sustainable societies".

Prime Minister Marković will address the General Assembly and participate in the plenary session of the High-level Meeting on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), as well as the High-level Meeting on Financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Action for peacekeeping. The Prime Minister will also participate in the Bloomberg Business Forum, which brings together the most important leaders from the public and private sector to address the challenges for the prosperity of everyone and build key partnership between the business community and governments. During his stay in New York, Prime Minister Duško Marković will participate in the meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Western Balkans (WB6), organised by High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. At the invitation of Concordia Summit, PM Marković will be the one of the panelists on the topic of "Supporting Economic Resilience of Small Islands and Developing Countries".

During his stay in New York, Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović will host the meeting of the foreign ministers of the member states and the American-Adriatic Charter (A5), which Montenegro organises as part of its chairmanship of this initiative. Minister Darmanović will participate in the meeting of the Western Balkans Foreign Ministers and Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, in the ministerial meeting of the Central European Initiative (CEI) countries, in a high-level meeting on launching the Youth Agenda, the first ministerial meeting of the Global alliance for torture-free trade to stop the trade in goods used for capital punishment and torture and the meeting dedicated to the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.

The UN General Assembly will be preceded by the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit, organised for the 100th anniversary of the birth of Nelson Mandela.

Prime Minister Marković and Minister Darmanović will participate in numerous multilateral meetings organised on the sidelines of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, as well as bilateral meetings with senior officials from participating countries, the United Nations and other organisations.

Participation of the delegation of Montenegro in the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly represents an opportunity for further promotion of Montenegro's achieved results and priorities on the internal and foreign policy plan, strengthening the position and visibility of Montenegro in the UN and improving the bilateral relations with the participating countries.
