High school students celebrate European linguistic heritage

The European Union is committed to respecting linguistic diversity, and the knowledge of foreign languages will enable young people to connect and find jobs more easily, was said today at the European Languages Day.

The European Languages Day was celebrated today under the EU4ME project funded by the European Union, and implemented by UNDP, organized by the Office for European Integration, Ministry of Education and Gymnasium "Slobodan Škerović".

Students from Podgorica's Gymnasium turned to the participants in recitals and songs in several European languages, and later they talked with representatives of the embassies, but also taught them several phrases of their native language.

The Montenegrin Chief Negotiator, Aleksandar Drljević, reminded that in Europe exists more than 200 languages and that we live in a time when it is almost unthinkable not to know at least one world language, stressing that Montenegro is continuously trying to improve the education system regarding the learning of foreign languages.

Head of the EU Delegation in Podgorica, Aivo Orav, emphasized that marking the European Languages Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of language learning and linguistic diversity, but also celebrate the linguistic heritage of the European community.

Director General in the Ministry of Education, Arijana Nikolić Vučinić, said that it is questionable what kind of knowledge on the labor market will be needed today's students.

Director of the Gymnasium "Slobodan Škerović", Zoja Bojanić Lalović, said that linguistic diversity is a tool for achieving greater multicultural thinking, but also a key element of the rich cultural heritage of our continent.
