CEI ministerial meeting held on margins of UN General Assembly
Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović participated in a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Central European Initiative (CEI) countries, which took place on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York. The host of the meeting, organised within the Croatian Chairmanship of this initiative, was Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia Marija Pejčinović Burić.
The foreign ministers of the CEI member states discussed the EU enlargement and support to candidate countries in the integration process. The officials also talked about dealing with the current challenges related to the migration crisis and security risks, as well as the mechanisms for continuously improving the coordination of activities of all CEI countries in these areas.
Minister Darmanović also attended the UN Security Council session, chaired by US President Donald Trump.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs met in New York with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland, with whom he discussed the further dynamics of cooperation between Montenegro and the Council of Europe, as well as the positive effect of this cooperation on Montenegro's European integration path.
Minister Darmanović also held meetings with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Greece Nikos Kotzias and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides. The topics of the meetings were further support to Montenegro on its European path, as well as the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
