New York, the USA (29 September 2018) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković expressed satisfaction with the result of the participation of the Delegation of Montenegro at the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, saying at the end of the visit that the key characteristics of all the meetings he had as the head of the delegation is that Montenegro was recognised as a responsible member of the United Nations, which contributes to peace and promotes stability.
"My key feeling is that we confirmed our position of a democratic and free country, a country that definitely fosters the basic principles and values on which the United Nations are based on - peace and stability," said the Prime Minister at the end of the session of the UN General Assembly.
He stated that he was particularly impressed by the fact that representatives of all the countries he had contacts with put Montenegro at the forefront of respecting multilateralism and basic values of the United Nations that are endangered or might be endangered. He added that he heard the same attitude from the highest officials of the World Organisation.
"Montenegro is, therefore, a country recognised for its promotion of peace, stability, solidarity and common values," the Prime Minister underscored, adding that his talks with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and President of the General Assembly Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces began with these assessments about Montenegro.
Prime Minister Marković said that the most important meeting and contact he made during the session was a brief conversation with US President Donald Trump.
"Indeed, President Trump used this opportunity to point out a permanent and meaningful partnership between Montenegro and the United States, and of course, I confirmed such a partnerships and expressed willingness to further build it up," said Prime Minister Marković. He added that he spoke with US Vice President Mike Pence as well.
"We renewed our memories of his visit to Montenegro and his willingness to further support Montenegro. Not only did he invite me to visit Washington but to call him at any time for everything we need," Prime Minister Duško Marković stressed.
