Government of Montenegro and WIPO sign Memorandum of Understanding
Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Francis Gurry and Director of the Intellectual Property Office of Montenegro Valentina Radulović Šćepanović, who is authorised on behalf of the Government of Montenegro, signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
Both sides concluded that the Memorandum was a crown of intensified and significantly improved cooperation between Montenegro and the WIPO.
The Director of WIPO assessed that the World Intellectual Property Organisation and Montenegro cooperate well and congratulated the Institute on the outstanding results achieved in the previous year. He supported the efforts of the Institute to develop a new national intellectual property strategy and pointed out the necessity of adopting strategies to track trends and overcome intellectual property challenges. Dr. Gurry expressed the expectation that the new strategy, through broad implementation of intellectual property, will contribute to a stronger valorisation of rich geographical, cultural, tourism and other potentials of Montenegro. He also supported the presented plan of joint activities of the WIPO and the Institute in the coming period.
The Director of the Institute expressed her gratitude to the Director of WIPO for support and expressed her strong belief that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding would contribute to strengthening the conditions for the development of innovations and optimal use of intellectual property and raising the level of awareness of its role and significance, noting that it would be an incentive for the efficient use and commercialisation of intellectual property in order to create better conditions for business and investors, and therefore the economy of Montenegro as a whole.
