Tirana, Albania (4 October 2018) -- As a result of the judicial reform, today in Montenegro there are significantly more efficient courts and a significantly reduced backlog of cases, which ensures better protection of rights and faster access to justice for our citizens and the economy, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Zoran Pažin stated.
DPM Pažin spoke earlier today in Tirana at the EU-Western Balkans Ministerial Forum of Justice and Home Affairs, which, apart from the ministers of justice and internal affairs of the countries of the region, was also attended by EU officials and high representatives of European institutions, namely European Commissioner for Justice Vera Jourova and European Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs Dimitris Avramopouloss.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that all aspects of the Montenegrin justice system are clearly enhanced during the implementation of the current judicial reform strategy.
He stressed that the goals of the new judicial reform strategy for the period 2019-2020 will include further rationalisation of the judiciary network, measuring the burden of the work of judges and the time to resolve the case, reducing the number of unresolved court cases and further harmonising case law with the practice of the European Court of Human Rights.
During his meeting with European Commissioner Vera Jourova, Deputy Prime Minister Pažin expressed gratitude for the support for Montenegro's admission to the European Union Justice Programme. Montenegro's participation in the EU Justice Program, whose budget amounts to EUR 378 million, will enable the Montenegrin judiciary to establish closer cooperation with judicial systems of the EU member states and provide more robust guarantees for the protection of the rights of the Montenegrin citizens in the entire European judicial area.
