Deputy Prime Minister Rafet Husović met today with the delegation of the Ministry of Regional Development of the Republic of Kosovo headed by Minister Rasim Demiri.

I am glad that we met today in Podgorica and that we have the opportunity to discuss the topic of regional development. I consider it to be another step in the deepening of cooperation between Montenegro and Kosovo. Good political relations between the two countries will be further improved once the better economic and regional cooperation is established, DPM Husović said.

Deputy Prime Minister Husović informed guests about the current political and economic situation in Montenegro. He also informed the guests about the legal framework regarding the regional development policy in Montenegro, as well as about the adopted regional development strategy and action plans for monitoring the implementation of the strategy. All this enabled us to have significant investments in infrastructure and development projects, primarily in the North of Montenegro.

Given that Montenegro has made significant progress in Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as in the field of regional development policy, we offer to share our experiences and to cooperate in all fields in order to jointly advance in those processes that are of great significance for both countries, Husović said.

Minister Demiri thanked for the warm welcome and expressed satisfaction that Montenegro and Kosovo cherish good neighbourly relations.

We are the newly formed Ministry in the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, and the establishment of the Ministry has arisen from the real need of a more harmonised development of all five regions in Kosovo. In that sense, we are ready to cooperate with your Office as well as with Montenegrin institutions dealing with this issue in order to be able to apply your experience, Demiri said.

Minister Demiri informed DPM Husović about the organisation and method of work of the Ministry of Regional Development of Kosovo, as well as the results achieved in the previous period.

The two officials agreed that in the coming period a special emphasis should be placed on the cross-border cooperation of the municipalities of the two countries, where important projects in the field of culture and tourism through the funds of the European Union could be implemented.

Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to Montenegro Skender Durmishi also attended the meeting.
