Defence Minister Bošković meets KFOR Commander: Major General Cuoci welcomes Montenegro's decision to contribute to mission in Kosovo

Pristina, Kosovo (24 October 2018) -- Defence Minister Predrag Bošković met yesterday with KFOR Commander in Kosovo, Major General Salvatore Cuoci. This is the first visit by a defence minister of Montenegro to the NATO Command in Kosovo.
Minister Bošković stressed that the cooperation between KFOR and Montenegro, which dates back to the restoration of the Montenegrin independence, is at an exceptional level. He stated that the security situation in Kosovo is stable, but that the further engagement of NATO forces is the best guarantor of stability and security. The Defence Minister pointed out that the membership of Montenegro in the Alliance represents a historically significant decision, both for the country's security and the stability of the Western Balkans.
He informed Major General Cuoci about the results in the field of defence achieved during the membership in the Alliance, stressing that Montenegro will carry out tasks from NATO agenda. He put special emphasis to the participation in the mission in Afghanistan, future participation in the Enhanced Forward Presence in Latvia, as well as the assumption of obligations from the policy of equal sharing of cargo and investment in defense national capacities.
General Cuoci welcomed Montenegro's decision to contribute to NATO mission, thus confirming that it is a reliable ally to NATO. He said that security situation on the ground continues to require the presence of NATO forces in Kosovo.
Minister Bošković emphasised that the cooperation with the KFOR will be further enhanced through the engagement of two officers of the Montenegrin Armed Forces in this mission, which will make a concrete contribution to regional security.
Following the meeting, a formal ceremony took place in front of the KFOR Command to mark the commencement of engagement of the first of the two officers of the Armed Forced of Montenegro, Lieutenant Colonel Nedžad Rujović in the NATO mission in Kosovo. Lieutenant Colonel Rujović will be engaged as Deputy Chief of the Department of Engineering Operations at the KFOR Command in Pristina.
