Chief Negotiator Drljević: Montenegro set to share European values, preserve welfare of citizens

Strasbourg, France (14 November 2018) -- Montenegro will continue transforming the society in line with the European values ​​based on the rule of law and preservation the welfare of its citizens, safe in the knowledge that the European Union will recognise the individual results achieved by the state, said Chief negotiator Aleksandar Drljević at the session of the EU-Montenegro Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC).

At the 16th meeting, held in Strasbourg, the SAPC discussed the situation in the negotiations, with special emphasis on progress in the areas of the rule of law and economy. Members of the Parliament of Montenegro and their counterparts from the European Parliament also discussed the activities of the Montenegrin parliament to improve the election process, as well as progress in the area of ​​sustainable development and environmental protection and Montenegro's contribution to the stability of the Western Balkans.

In his address, the Chief Negotiator emphasised the importance of the upcoming elections in the European Parliament in 2019. "The outcome of these elections will greatly affect the future of our relations. We sincerely hope that the new composition of the European Parliament will continue to be dedicated to the EU enlargement policy and deepening and strengthening relations with our region," he added.
