PM Marković: Establishment of ZAVNO strengthens centuries-old foundations of Montenegrin statehood and lays new ones

Prime Minister Duško Marković congratulated the Federation of Veterans Associations of the People's Liberation War of Yugoslavia (SUBNOR) on the 75th anniversary of the State Anti-fascist Council for the National Liberation of Montenegro and Boka's (ZAVNO) sitting, and 70 years since the establishment of SUBNOR and Anti-fascists of Montenegro.

The Prime Minister expressed the belief that state successes regarding the restoration of independence justify our libertarian and anti-fascist heritage. By establishing ZAVNO, the centuries-old foundations of Montenegrin statehood have been strengthened and the new ones have been laid.

I am convinced that state successes regarding the restoration of independence justified our libertarian and anti-fascist heritage, on whose foundations we have built a democratic and Euro-Atlantic Montenegro, and brought it back where it belongs. When in 1943 ZAVNO was formed as the highest governing institution of the anti-fascist resistance movement of Montenegro and Boka, the centuries-old foundations of Montenegrin statehood were strengthened and the new ones were laid. It was this antifascist gene that, in many years of transition, made a major contribution to the state-building and civil being of Montenegro – the Prime Minister emphasised.

The Prime Minister stressed that it is a common obligation of Montenegro to remember exactly these dates and events, because they reflect the victory, but also the sacrifice that Montenegro made in the fight against fascism.

Therefore, on this occasion, I pay tribute to everyone who has laid down their lives for the freedom of their country, with respect to their families and descendants – Prime Minister Duško Marković said.
