Meeting of Road Construction Coordination Committee

The Coordination Committee for Road Construction met today in Podgorica to consider the initiative for the construction of Podgorica-Matasevo Road. Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic presided over the meeting.

The meeting was attended by Parliament Speaker Ranko Krivokapic, Director of the Motorway Directorate Ratko Ivanovic, ministers and representatives of relevant ministries, representatives of Montenegrin commercial banks and civil engineering authorities.

The attendees agreed that, in defining transport priorities, Montenegro had to coordinate its development policy with the priorities of neighbouring countries and the quality of their connection with Europe. That was said to be the only way to secure fast and efficient connection with developed European countries, by exploiting local development resources.

As far as Podgorica-Matasevo Road is concerned, it was found that it might improve the utilisation of economic and natural resources of Montenegro and accelerate the exchange of people, goods and capital, as a precondition for quicker and balanced development of Montenegro.

It was decided for the Motorway Directorate to prepare the project documentation, including technical and financial aspects of the project, in cooperation with the relevant ministry, based on which the Government would decide whether to support the project.
