8th meeting of the Governing Board of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region (EUSAIR) took place in Podgorica.
The two-day meeting was organized within the Montenegrin EUSAIR presidency and chaired by General Director for EU at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and EUSAIR National Coordinator, Jelena Burzan, and Deputy Chief Negotiator and National IPA Coordinator at the European Integration Office, Ivana Glišević Đurović.
At the meeting, the EUSAIR Presidency Program and Priorities were presented, upcoming commitments and activities were defined, as well as the next steps related to determining the macro-regional priorities that would be relevant for the next Financial Perspective (2021-2027).
Burzan reminded that Montenegro is the first country, non EU member state, to chair the EUSAIR. “This is of great importance for both Montenegro and the region, bearing in mind that EUSAIR serves as one of the mechanisms that helps in the process of EU accession”, Burzan said. She pointed out that Montenegro will continue to be a reliable partner in all future activities of EUSAIR and thus contribute to the implementation of the Strategy.
Glišević Đurović reminded that 4 years have passed since the adoption of EUSAIR and that we are on halfway when it comes to implementation of this Strategy. “During the Montenegrin presidency of EUSAIR, together with other national coordinators of the member states, we will make effort to ensure that priorities of importance for the Adriatic-Ionian macro-region are included in the legislation and program documents for the next EU Financial Perspectives 2021-2027”, she added.
