Bošković: Last two years have been the most significant in the development of the Ministry of Defence as well as in reform and modernization of the Armed Forces of Montenegro

"The past two years, and especially the last one, were of great importance for the development of the Ministry of Defence's projects, but also for the reform and modernization of the Armed Forces of Montenegro," said Defence Minister MCs Predrag Bošković during the today's presentation of work results and future plans of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Montenegro.
The presentation entitled “U stroju s vojskom” (“In formation with the Armed Forces”), was organized at the Air Force hangar of the Armed Forces of Montenegro in front of numerous media representatives, along with a scenography made by two helicopters Bell 412 EPI and with the presence of members of the minister's cabinet and 59 new Contract Solders.
Minister Bošković firstly spoke about the new Organizational and Formation structure of the Armed Forces of Montenegro, which was adopted by the Government of Montenegro a few days ago, according to which the AF will have 2.368 members in peacetime and 5,159 members in wartime. He emphasized that the Ministry and the Armed Forces pay particular attention to harmonizing the structure of the military with the needs of the State and its size, which also implies significant rejuvenation of personnel.
Speaking about the modernization of the Armed Forces, Minister Bošković reminded on this year's acquisition of three medium multipurpose helicopters Bell 412, one type EP and two types EPI, on the planned conversion of the RTOP 405 into a patrol boat, which will improve the capacities of the Navy, on procurement of uniforms for the entire composition of the Armed Forces of Montenegro, on six light armored vehicles, a German donation worth over two million Euros, as well as equipping the declared forces.
As part of the achievements of the Armed Forces of Montenegro, Minister Bošković also mentioned the end of the long-term overhaul of the School Ship "Jadran", which today is truly pride not only for the Navy and the Armed Forces of Montenegro, but also for the whole country.
Minister has reminded that the air space of the Montenegro now protected by NATO mission Air Policing.
Speaking about the contribution of our country to the maintenance of international peace and stability, Minister reminded that, by the permanent participation in some missions, recently joined our participation in the KFOR mission in Kosovo.
He emphasized that Montenegrin soldiers participated in 34 international exercises in the previous period, among which the most significant recent major NATO exercise held in Norway, Trident Juncture 2018.
Bošković also announced the recent joining of members of the Armed Forces of Montenegro to the Enhanced Forward Presence mission in Latvia (eFP).
The Minister pointed out that special attention in the Ministry is given to solving the social status of employees in the Ministry and in the Armed Forces, and that a new Housing Cooperative was set up for that purpose, which currently has 600,000 Euros that will be spent for this purpose. He reminded that at Rsojevići in Danilovgrad the building is under construction with 68 new housing units, which is an investment worth about five million Euros, whose deadline is mid-2020.
Bošković also pointed out to a significant reduction of the number of court disputes that the Armed Forces employees are leading against the Ministry of Defense, and pointed out that this year they paid about 1.4 million Euros less on this basis in comparison to the previous year.
As part of future projects, the Minister referred to the equipping of land forces units, plans for the valorization of the "Marko Miljanov Popovic" barracks in Masline, the formation of the Regional Center for Mountain Warfare, the military polygon in Sinjajevina, the Miljan Vukov Vešović barracks in Andrijevica, the possible moving of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Montenegro in Berane or Niksic, and secure procurement of radars for airspace control.
Bošković pointed out that the Ministry will be committed to developing cyber-attacks and military intelligence, scholarship of surplus civilian occupations, new strategic and legal regulations, and general rejuvenation of personnel.
In the end, Bošković stressed that all financial and normative prerequisites were created for the establishment of a system of voluntary military service (conscripts) and reserve system. This is a significant project that should come to life from the beginning of next year. In addition, conditions are created for the establishment of a Central Population Base, in order to establish the records of military taxpayers in order to fill in the reserve structure of the Armed Forces of Montenegro.
Attendees have watched in pre-premiere the documentary educational movie “Our power, the Armed Forces of Montenegro”. After that, for the major part of the media representatives is organized the flight with Bells above the Skadar Lake and Montenegrin coast.
