Interior Minister Mevludin Nuhodzic participated today at the European Disaster Risk Reduction Forum (EFDRR) in Rome organized by the Government of the Republic of Italy and the United Nations Office for Disaster Reduction, which was opened by Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conte.
Addressing senior officials, Minister Nuhodzic informed that Montenegro has adopted the Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction with the Dynamic Plan for the period 2018-2023 which clearly defined the obligations of all bodies in the system in the field of preventive measures, operational activities and institutional capacities. As a priority for the coming period, he emphasized the development of the National Risk Assessment for all types of hazard, the development of strategies for disaster risk reduction and risk assessment at the local level, the establishment of a database of losses and disaster damage, strengthening existing and building new capacities to respond to natural and technical-technological disasters. Minister Nuhodzic highlighted the importance of international cooperation. "It is necessary to continuously make efforts to improve the mechanisms of cooperation and synergy, in order to improve prevention. We must all work together on the resilience of the community and society to the risks of disasters, and for this we need a strong partnership. By reducing the risk, we can save many lives, "the minister said.
During the Forum's participation, Minister Nuhodzic met with the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, Mami Mizutori, and with the National Coordinator for Civil Protection Affairs in the Government of the Republic of Italy, Angelo Borelli.
Positive assessments were made of the activities implemented by the Ministry of Interior and the Government of Montenegro in the direction of strengthening the capacities for countering the risks of disasters. The readiness to continue supporting Montenegro has been confirmed through further education of the members of the protection and rescue system and expert assistance in the preparation of relevant documents. Together we have already noted good quality cooperation in the implementation of numerous projects in the field of emergency situations, with the willingness to further intensify cooperation.
