Supreme State Prosecutor and Police Directorate Director establish Operational Team for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings
Supreme State Prosecutor Ivica Stanković and Director of the Police Directorate Veselin Veljović met earlier today and stressed that cooperation between the police and the prosecution was highly professional, noting the concrete results in the fight against the most serious and all other forms of crime.
The progress in the fight against organised crime has been recognised in the European Commission's Non-paper for Chapters 23 and 24 in Montenegro, and the ratings of European partners confirm the determination of the police and the prosecutors to achieve more measurable results in this area.
The meeting also discussed the fight against trafficking in human beings, as one of the current challenges in the countries of the region.
Supreme State Prosecutor Stanković and Director of Police Directorate Veljović emphasised that there should be a stronger connection between the competent authorities in resolving this issue so that actions on the detection, suppression and prosecution of criminal offenses of trafficking in human beings and related crimes are timely coordinated.
Therefore, Stanković and Veljović established today the Operational Team for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, headed by the Prosecutor, whose members are representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the Police Directorate, the Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Justice.
The Police Directorate, in coordination with the Prosecutor's Office, continuously implements an action aimed at detecting, preventing and combating trafficking in human beings and similar criminal acts. In order to make the results even more successful, the police undertake numerous activities in strengthening professional, material and technical capacities supported by international partner organisations.
