Chief Negotiator Drljević: EU believes in Western Balkans

Podgorica, Montenegro (12 December 2018) -- The European Union has shown that enlargement is one of its most valuable policies and will continue to support Montenegro and the region on their path to membership, the 8th meeting of the Stabilisation and Association Committee noted, stressing that progress should involve all social stakeholders.

In his address, Chief Negotiator Aleksandar Drljević emphasised the importance of adopting the Strategy for the Western Balkans, pointing out that with this document the European Union has shown that enlargement is one of its most valuable policies and sent a message to the region to believe in it.

He recalled that since the last meeting of the Committee, Montenegro has opened negotiations in four more negotiating chapters, the last one, Chapter 27 was opened two days ago at the Intergovernmental Conference, highlighting that this is one of the most challenging chapters in terms of the scope of legal and financial requirements for the implementation of European environmental standards.
