Government amends internal trade law by introducing non-working Sundays

Podgorica, Montenegro (7 March 2019) -- At today's session, the Cabinet passed the Draft Law Amending the Law on Internal Trade, introducing non-working Sundays.
As this law regulates retail and wholesale, the draft law introduces a new article which prescribes the prohibition of performing activities in the wholesale and retail trade on Sundays and in days of state and other holidays, except in sales facilities or other outlets that will be determined by the regulation of the Ministry of the Economy.
The passing of this law aims to improve the position of workers in Montenegro.
In this way we positively influence the general economic activities, the quality of life of the individual, family and society. As the nature of the work and organisation of work in the trade sector does not require work on Sundays, the introduction of non-working Sundays will not jeopardise the income of traders, as it will spill over to other days.
The Draft Law Amending the Law on Internal Trade introduces other novelties that facilitate the operation of traders. Introduction of non-working Sundays has been supported by the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro, that is, a certain number of employers through the Trade Committee.
