Press release: Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met with Slovenian Minister for European Affairs Milan Cvikl

Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met today in Podgorica with the Minister for Europeans Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Milan Cvikl, during his official visit to Montenegro and the state union.

The meeting featured a wide range of issues concerning bilateral cooperation, regional relations and European integration. Prime Minister Djukanovic and Minister Cvikl expressed their satisfaction with traditional friendship between the two countries as well as the readiness to promote various aspects of cooperation.

Prime Minister Djukanovic presented the current political and economic situation in the Republic and the results the Government and other state bodies achieved in the field of social reforms. He explained that Montenegro was undergoing the process of building the social and economic system and state institutions on new principles, which among other things, helped create an economic environment that improved the economic cooperation with the world, with particular reference to the rise in foreign investment.

Commending the extraordinary results Slovenia made in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, he stressed that the development of relations and cooperation with Slovenia was among the top priorities of Montenegros foreign policy. Prime Minister Djukanovic said he was convinced that Slovenia would provide invaluable support in the realization of Montenegros development objectives and in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Minister Cvikl emphasized that his government had a strong interest in promoting the cooperation with Montenegro. He explained that the admission of Western Balkan countries was one of Slovenian strategic interests and a matter of extreme importance for the stability and progress of the European continent as a whole. According to him, the Slovenian Government and state institutions are ready to share the experience in different social and economic fields obtained in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

The two officials agreed that this visit represented another confirmation of mutual readiness to promote various kinds of cooperation of importance for both Montenegro and Slovenia as well as the development of regional cooperation.
