In cooperation with the University of Montenegro – Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), under the auspices of CERN and International Particle Physics Outreach Group (IPPOG), the Ministry of Science will organise an International Particle Physics Masterclass on Wednesday, 20 March 2019, at 9.30 (Room 210 at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics).

“Masterclasses – Hands on Particle Physics” present an educational research programme within which more than 13.000 high school students from 52 countries around the world will come to one of about 200 scientific institutions to actively learn about particle physics. Within the programme, high school students in Montenegro will have another opportunity to devote some time to particle physics, analysing the real data collected in one of the experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the largest particle accelerator in the world, located in Switzerland.

The first part of the programme encompasses a virtual visit to CERN, which is followed by lectures of active young researchers who will reflect on the topics and methodology of basic research of matter, particles and forces active among them, providing also an insight into complex experiments by enabling students to readily conduct exercises with real data obtained in one of the CERN experiments in the second part of the programme.

Finally, at the end of the programme, students will have the opportunity to take part in a video conference in English, as well as to discuss the results with other students and scientists around the world who have their Masterclass on the same day.

The event will present a unique opportunity for high school students to participate in this international programme and learn more about real research life in one of the most attractive areas of science, particle physics.
