Prime Minister Duško Marković: While remembering innocent victims and tragic events in 1999, we must be aware of importance of unity and concord

On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the intervention of the North Atlantic Treaty, Prime Minister Duško Marković said that Montenegro today, as an independent state and part of a large Euro-Atlantic family and a future member of the European Union, decides about its future itself, but it remembers with reverence the innocent victims of intervention from time when our country did not have control over the events that surrounded it.
“20 years have passed since the intervention of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. On that occasion, six innocent civilians, among them three children, were killed tragically in the north of Montenegro, in Murino. The State of Montenegro will never forget the innocent victims. The intervention of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation in 1999 Montenegro did not want nor led to it. Montenegro was at that time part of another state and part of the system in which it had no control over the events that surrounded it.” The Prime Minister emphasised.
Prime Minister Duško Marković said that he wanted to express reverence for the victims, but also to send messages for the future remembering the difficult times.
“Today, Montenegro is an independent state, which makes own decisions about its future, which is part of a large Euro-Atlantic family and a future member of the European Union. Our country already belongs to Europe and its values, the rule of law, civil liberties and economic freedom and respect for human dignity. Therefore, when we remember these tragic events, we should be more than ever aware of the importance of unity and concord. We can have different opinions, but preserving our fundamental values and solidarity among us are principles that should encourage us to contribute to the progress of our country every day.” Prime Minister Marković said.
