Ministers Vučinović, Nuhodžić, visit Igor Tomkić in Berane: We are here to pass on Government's message that Montenegro is your country that will protect you

Berane, Montenegro (29 March 2019) -- Ministers Marija Vučinović and Mevludin Nuhodžić visited earlier today the Croat Igor Tomkić, who was attacked on the previous day, pledged the Government's full support and arranged emergency material assistance for the reconstruction of the object that had been set on fire.
"The atmosphere that led to this case in Berane was contributed by certain individuals with retrograde ideas and nationalist sentiments, which is dangerous, and the State of Montenegro will not allow it," said Minister Nuhodžić.
He said that he and Minister Vučinović came to Berane in order to encourage the Tomkić family and conveyed them a message from the Government that Montenegro is their country that will protect them.
"The attack on the Tomkic family is an attack on Montenegro, its multi-ethnic and multi-religious harmony. These values are Montenegro's biggest fortune, for which it has been recognised in the region and beyond," Minister Nuhodžić stressed. He added that the state institutions will do their best to find the perpetrators of this abominable and cowardly act, bring them to justice and punish them severely. We will also, he continued, determine the responsibility for possible omissions in the protection of the Tomkić family.
"Montenegro knew how to tackle such challenges even when it was weaker. Montenegro is strong and will be strong enough to respond to this act. In Montenegro, nobody is and will not be able to achieve their goals using violence and vandalism," said Minister Nuhodžić.
Minister Vučinović noted that she is visiting the Tomkić family as a Cabinet member, but also as a compatriot of the Tomkić family.
"I call on not only the state institutions, but also the local one, local government and the entire society," said Minister Vučinović, adding that at its yesterday's session, the Cabinet made a decision to urgently help the Tomkić family repair material damage and enable them to return to everyday life.
Igor Tomkić said that the visit by the two ministers encourages him and gives him hope that he will be able to deal with the problems and that he will continue to live normally.
