Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met today in Podgorica with British Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro David Gowan, who is paying an official visit to our republic.
The Prime Minister and Ambassador Gowan discussed the current situation and development prospects of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries and in view of that recognized a mutual interest in their further development and promotion.
Prime Minister Djukanovic informed Ambassador Gowan about his recent visit to Lithuania, which was very successful, the socio-economic developments in Montenegro and the relations within the State Union, which is facing serious problems in its operation.
The Ambassador pointed out that British enterprises had expressed interest in the development of different forms of cooperation, particularly economic. Considerable results are expected in the field of oil research in the coastal area, which is the sphere of interest of RAMCO Company. He expressed his conviction that British companies would be interested in becoming subcontractors in the most important investment projects, which are expected in the following period. Ambassador Gowan recognized tourism and customs services as the fields of future cooperation.
It was agreed that the conclusions of the recent meeting of EU foreign ministers in Maastricht concerning the separate tracks for the two member states of the State Union would unblock the process of their access to the Union.
Prime Minister Djukanovic pointed out that the similar model should be considered with respect to Euro-Atlantic integration, since Montenegro should not suffer any further consequences of the lack of cooperation with the Hague Tribunal.
It was mutually agreed that this visit would encourage understanding and development of cooperation in different fields of common interest.
