Finding drugs on military training ship Jadran was one of most successful joint actions, PM Marković stresses

Podgorica, Montenegro (24 April 2019) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković said that the action which prevented a criminal group to use the military training ship Jadran is one of the most successful joint actions of the Police, Special Prosecution and security services, including members of the Ministry of Defence.
"This prevented the smuggling of around 60 kilograms of drugs worth over EUR 5 million, that is, it prevented a wider criminal activity of international character. Therefore, this was a strong and coordinated action of the state institutions. The fact that the competent authorities reacted effectively and identified the suspects charged with this serious crime speaks volume about the professionalism of institutions from the security system and the consistent implementation of the law," the Prime Minister underscored in a response to the parliamentary question of the Democratic Front.
The Prime Minister said that unfortunately the criminal activities can happen everywhere, and that there was an attempt of misusing the Montenegrin military training ship and dragging the Armed Forces and the State into a criminal context.
"We will not allow dragging the Armed Forces and the State into a criminal context, for political or any other reason. There was also an attempt of harming our Armed Forces' reputation by persons who - when proven guilty - are not worthy of military profession. I believe that you noticed that the state action was carefully planned and undertaken without the intention of hiding anything, using full capacity of institutions. And they strengthen on a daily basis, which speaks about our status of a NATO member and our ability to contribute to collective security even through the prevention of the most serious forms of crime. I am convinced that you are aware that it is in everyone's interest to develop such an ability, and that this action should be strongly supported," said Prime Minister Marković.
He added that there is no criminal gang enjoying the Government's support, as it is insinuated, but that state authorities act indiscriminately.
"To tell you clearly - there is no criminal gang enjoying the Government's support. The state authorities act in accordance with the Constitution and the law, bringing perpetrators of crimes or members of criminal gangs to justice. We will further reinforce the rule of law and effective law enforcement. Montenegro and its institutions have shown that they are set to fight crime uncompromisingly and resolutely. This action testifies to the commitment, professionalism and responsibility of the institutions and the security system. On this occasion, I would like to reiterate what you deliberately do not want to say - the actions undertaken for the first three months of this year point to the extensive activities of the institutions in identifying and prosecuting perpetrators of organised crimes, and I spoke about this during the previous Prime Minister's Question session. Therefore, there will be no exceptions in combating organised crime," Prime Minister Duško Marković concluded.
