Podgorica, Montenegro (3 May 2019) -- Government of Montenegro paid EUR 17,000 to help relatives of the abducted and killed Montenegrin citizens from a train near the town of Štrpci on 27 February 1993.

Prime Minister Duško Marković met with the victims' families in early March and on that occasion said that the suffering of the innocent citizens in Štrpci in 1993 obliges the Government to work on all the outstanding issues falling within its remit, at the same time, creating conditions for providing institutional assistance to the families of the victims.

Officials of the Government's Office for Communication with Citizens paid a visit to all the families of the victims and reviewed the situation and the possibilities for assistance. After visiting and talking with families, the Government allocated EUR 17,000 for the families, and will continue with other forms of support.

Furthermore, the Government passed the Information on the signing of the Protocol between the Government of Montenegro and the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina on cooperation in the search for missing persons, instructing other institutions and bodies to undertake activities that will allow family members of the victims to monitor the court proceedings that are being conducted before the competent authorities of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Information on the implementation of the Decision of the Parliament of the Republic of Montenegro No. 02-2552 / 10 of 19 October 1993 regarding the establishment of the Research and Documentation Centre will also be provided.
