Podgorica, Montenegro (7 May 2019) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković said in Budva earlier today that he has faith in the political and personal maturity of political leaders of the Democratic Front and that he is not concerned about the events that will take place following the publication of the court decision in the proceedings of attempted terrorism.
Asked by a journalist following the opening of the 4th Forum of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region (EUSAIR) whether he expects the destabilisation of the country's after the court decision's publication scheduled for the day after tomorrow, the Prime Minister stated that this is impossible.
"It is impossible. Montenegro is not a country in which such conflicts are possible, not even on this occasion. Not only because Montenegro is a stable country in which the institutions function, in which each challenge can be institutionalised from the aspect of securing stability, security of individuals and the State, but because, regardless of the rhetoric we have heard and which is not pleasant, which seems confusing, I have faith in the responsibility of the political leaders of the Democratic Front," said Prime Minister Duško Marković. He added that the Democratic Front, as the strongest opposition political power in Montenegro, bears, along with the authorities, responsibility for order and stability.
"I understand that this process was exhausting, I heard that they expressed dissatisfaction with the content of this process, the alleged political pressure of the authorities on the judiciary, which is absolutely incorrect, but I believe in their political responsibility, in their political and personal maturity and I am not worried about the events that will take place after the publication of the court decision," the Prime Minister said.
He stated that any manifestation of the lack of respect for court decisions and disagreements with court proceedings is a pressure on the independence of the judiciary and its work.
Asked whether the level of preparedness of certain state services and the protection of top state officials was raised in connection with the decision of the court, the Prime Minister said that there is no state of emergency.
"We have no estimation that instability may occur in Montenegro, not even on this occasion. Therefore, the security services are performing regular activities, officials are doing their job with a security system that is regular, as you can see so that there is no any kind of a state of emergency," said Prime Minister Duško Marković.
Concessions to the airports to be on the Government's agenda in ten-day time
When asked by journalists about when the Government will be considering concessions to the airports, Prime Minister Marković said that yesterday the Government received from the Faculty of Economics a study on the market value of the airports, which was the last document required.
"I believe that in the next ten days, we will have the concession act on the agenda of a Government's session, adopt it and initiate a concession procedure," the Prime Minister announced.
We do not respond to unfounded claims from Serbia
When asked by the Serbian journalists about the relations between the two countries, the Prime Minister noted that relations are good and that Montenegro does not respond to casual unfounded claims from Serbia.
"Lately, we have see that there is a little nervousness, objections have been raised to the Montenegrin politics regarding the entire region, its stabilisation, peace and prosperity. As you can see in Montenegro, we do not react to such objections, we consider them unfounded. Montenegro has been pursuing a consistent policy, Montenegro is a country that spreads dialogue and tolerance in the region with everyone, and above all with Serbia. We understand Serbia's difficult heritage in resolving the Kosovo issue, so we sometimes understand the nervousness. We do not often agree with the objections, but as you see, we do not react nervously. We want to make a contribution to Serbia resolve its difficult issues not only for itself but also for the sake of the region as a whole," said Prime Minister Duško Marković in Budva taking questions from the journalists following the opening of the 4th Forum of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region (EUSAIR).
