PM Marković agrees in Berlin first concrete steps in intensifying Montenegro's cooperation with German economy

Berlin, Germany (14 May 2019) – The German economy is ready to invest more intensively in Montenegro and strengthen its business ties with the Montenegrin business sector – the first concrete steps on this plan have been agreed today, on the first day of a working visit by Prime Minister Duško Marković to the Federal Republic of Germany.
Prime Minister Marković talked with Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier and delegation of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), led by Head of Foreign Trade Volker Treier.
Prime Minister informed German delegation about further Government priorities on the economic agenda, adding that Montenegro sees foreign investors as an opportunity for economic cooperation, but also for political and development partnership. In this context, the Prime Minister stressed that Montenegro wants a strategic partnership with the Federal Republic of Germany, not only within the partnership that we have as a member of NATO and the European Union in the future, but also on a bilateral level.
The meetings agreed a number of concrete steps on deepening the cooperation of business people.
"German investors do not only bring money, but also know-how and business culture, and are able to educate and develop our people. We are interested in all of this," the Prime Minister stressed.
Prime Minister Duško Marković said after the meetings that he was impressed with the ratings Montenegro received on its progress, and that the German economy is ready to cooperate with our country.
"There is a clear willingness to organise conferences of business people from both countries, here in Berlin and in Montenegro, to institutionalise cooperation between chambers of commerce in order to bring our possibilities closer. German business people have even shown interest. I am really encouraged by this meeting. I am particularly encouraged by the meeting with Minister of Economic Affairs, Mr. Altmaier, who was completely open, who discussed our cooperation with direct proposals on how to do everything together, and especially from the German side, that German companies are interested in Montenegro, to invest in Montenegro, create new jobs, that we strengthen our capabilities through this process – capabilities to manage our resources and provide new opportunities for our young people. We agreed on concrete steps on his proposal," the Prime Minister said in a statement following the meeting.
Prime Minister Duško Marković also met with Jan Hecker, Foreign Policy Adviser to Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel.
"We talked not only about the development of our bilateral relations that are on the rise, but also about the new opportunities that emerge in this cooperation and how to jointly answer the open issues in the region that will help speed up our European and Euro-Atlantic perspective," Prime Minister Duško Marković said following the meeting.
